Dr. Opsahl finished an internship in obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1978. Soon after, he was assigned to the USS Nassau as a medical officer. Following his service, he worked as an obstetrics and gynecology resident at the National Naval Medical Center.
