Doctor Bio

Dr. Shala Salem received her M.D. from St. George's University School of Medicine after graduating from the University of California-Los Angeles with a degree in psychobiology and neuroscience. She then completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New York's Brooklyn Hospital Center. In 2009, she began working at the Pacific Reproductive Center.
She maintains that the integration of body and mind is the key to effective infertility care. “We succeed best when we strive to help keep the whole person in balance. That requires not just good medicine but also a steady focus on nutrition, exercise, and emotional well-being. Maintaining the balance takes an active partnership between patient and doctor, whose first job is to be the best listener possible.”
Dr. Shala recently completed an Integrative Medicine fellowship at the University of Arizona, where he worked with Dr. Andrew Weil. Integrative medicine aims to assess how a patient's lifestyle, including stress levels, diet, and sleep, affects his or her health. She enjoys spending time with her three children and husband, as well as cooking nutritious meals, crafting, and painting.
