How the Stress
Test Works
PERCEIVED STRESS SCALE RESULTS
Understanding your stress score
This stress test uses the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Originally created by Cohen et al (1983), it is an internationally recognised clinically validated tool used by psychologists to measure a person's perception of stress.
The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) measures the degree to which situations in your life are perceived as stressful. The series of questions have been designed to assess how unpredictable, uncontrollable, and overloaded you perceive your life to be at present and over the last month.

Psychological stress results from an imbalance between the external environmental demands you face and your perception of meeting them.

How stressed you are doesn't just have psychological implications - stress level is also associated with physical health outcomes, like impaired immune function, hormone imbalances, risk of addictions, weight and body fat percentage.

Everyone faces challenges at some time or another and we can all benefit from tools that can help us work with them better. Stress and challenges are part of life, but sometimes a frantic schedule, a gnawing worry or a life event can notch the score higher and higher until you start experiencing persistent negative impacts on health and wellbeing.
When you know your stress score that's the first step in discovering how to plan for and manage difficulties more skilfully.
