    Amy Swenson

    MA, LMFT

    San Jose

    CA

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in fertility and perinatal mental health.

I got my qualifications and did my training at...

    Santa Clara University

    My approach is...

I work with clients to explore their wants, needs, thoughts, and feelings in order to make more informed decisions about where they’re heading in life.

    I work in fertility because...

I specialize in fertility because it’s an area where support is essential. Clients navigating their fertility journey often express tumultuous emotions and it is invaluable to have a mental health professional who understands the process and fertility vocabulary. This specialty is near and dear to me as a former fertility patient myself.

I'm interested in helping women undergoing egg freezing because...

Egg freezing can be stressful, but it’s only one aspect of your complex life. Therapy can help you process the thoughts and feelings associated with your fertility journey as well as additional issues affecting your life as a whole. We work together to create balance and enhanced well-being whether you’re feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, struggling with being single or divorced, experiencing job stress, managing relationship issues or internal or external pressure regarding a ticking biological clock.

    I use the following techniques...

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Person-Centered

Other things I specialize in are...

Adjustment Disorder, Anxiety, Burnout, Codependency, Depression, Family Conflict, Life transitions, Grief or Loss, Panic, Personal Growth, Relationship / Marriage Issues, Self-Esteem, Stress, Women's Issues, Compassion Fatigue, Job Stress, Attachment

I believe optimizing lifestyle and accessing emotional support are important during fertility treatment because...

Creating a well-balanced, supportive environment is essential during fertility treatment because of the varied and intense emotions involved in the process. Fertility treatment is often described as an emotional rollercoaster, tending to those emotions, developing skills to handle them in a caring, supportive environment, and creating a well-balanced lifestyle will benefit you during fertility treatment and all future endeavors.

My interests outside of work are...

Cooking, baking, theater, exercise, spending time with family and friends.

Something you might not expect about me is that...

I love musical theater and have seen Hamilton three times.

I offer treatment in the following formats...

    In-person

My patients can expect this type of schedule from me during treatment...

Treatment length is dependent upon each individual’s needs and goals. I recommend weekly sessions to build a trusting relationship essential for therapeutic success. Session frequency may be reduced as skills are developed and emotional well-being is enhanced over time.

Exclusively for ELANZA members, I am offering...

I offer a brief phone call (or email exchanges) to determine the goodness of fit to work together before scheduling an initial appointment.
