About the 'Whole Patient Care Pledge'

ELANZA Wellness launched the Whole Patient Care Initiative to help draw attention to the value of an integrated approach to fertility treatment. In this pledge, fertility doctors, reproductive health practitioners and clinic staff make or re-assert their commitment to provide care that is respectful, responsible and responsive to individual patient's needs.

Why is this important?

Depression, anxiety and emotional trauma are innately intertwined with infertility treatment. The right support can be transformational for patients' experiences as well as leading to lower patient dropout and even improving success rates, according to some research. Likewise, providing patients with some information or resources around lifestyle improves empowerment and satisfaction, as well as creating opportunities to optimize outcomes.

Why a Commitment to Whole Patient Care is Vital

Fertility treatment is often a tough process but it doesn't have to be

Fertility treatments have high physical & emotional burdens and high drop‐out. Many patients report negative experience with current fertility care and it’s this lack of patient-centered care that researchers say leads to disruption and treatment drop-out.

Fertility patients aren't getting the empathetic care they need

Patients say empathetic care is very important, but there may be a disconnect between what doctors think they are delivering and what patients say they are experiencing. Researchers say that physicians polled actually underestimate the importance of patient‐centeredness, and they aren’t best placed to evaluate their own ability to deliver patient-centered care.

Whole patient care benefits everyone

Patient-centered care means higher patient satisfaction rates and potentially better treatment outcomes. Efforts to meet patients' needs for counseling around religion and personal values equates to patient empowerment at every stage of treatment. A more empowered patient puts less burden on clinical staff.
